NYU Grossman School of Medicine""

NYU Grossman School of Medicine is No. 2 in the nation for research on the 2023 U.S. News & World Report “Best Graduate Schools” rankings.
We are proud to have trained as well as fostered the innovations of thousands of physicians and scientists who have helped shape the course of medical history. Our students, faculty, and staff have contributed to groundbreaking discoveries that have improved the health of people around the world. As an integral part of NYU Langone Health, we are committed to a trifold mission of patient care, medical education, and scientific research.
Our 29 academic departments include nationally and internationally recognized faculty in clinical and basic sciences. We strive to bring together the best and brightest to cultivate collaboration across disciplines, and to facilitate breakthroughs that address today’s biggest challenges in medicine.
We have a long history of excellence, beginning in 1841 when six eminent physician–scientists opened the medical college that would become NYU School of Medicine. In November 2019, the school was renamed NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Opens in a new tab to honor current dean and CEO Robert I. Grossman, MD. Opens in a new tab.
For more than 175 years, our pioneers in medicine defined the fundamentals of what is now our mission: to serve, to teach, and to discover.

Transforming Medical and Science Education
Doctor and Medical Students See Patient

We are proud to offer every student enrolled in our MD degree program Full-Tuition Scholarships as part of our tuition-free initiative. We believe providing tuition-free education will lead to better patient care and will benefit society as a whole by turning the best and brightest future physicians into leaders with the potential to transform healthcare.
We have earned national attention in recent years for reimagining medical education with our innovative three-year MD degree program and our Curriculum for the 21st Century. As leaders in medical education reform, we believe our medical school curriculum should address the scientific, social, and economic aspects of the healthcare system.
We also believe in using the latest technology to enrich medical education, such as web-based surgical training, interactive simulation modalities, and big data analysis. Our Institute for Innovations in Medical Education focuses specifically on creating technology that can be used in medical training and directly benefit patients, and is one of the largest medical education innovation groups in the country. NYSIM. Opens in a new tab—our joint venture with City University of New York—is a 25,000-square-foot state-of-the-art simulation center that fosters clinical excellence and improved communication, patient safety, and quality of healthcare delivery.
Our medical students provide care to New York City’s diverse population through our affiliations with area hospitals, including the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System. Opens in a new tab and NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. Opens in a new tab, the nation’s oldest public hospital. These affiliations help to broaden the scope and enhance the quality of students’ education and training. We believe it’s important to nurture future healthcare leaders, so in addition to a medical degree, we offer dual MD/master’s degrees in business administration, public administration, global health, translational research, and bioethics.
At NYU Grossman School of Medicine, our commitment to innovation has led us to bold new ways of bridging the gap between basic science research, medical education, and quality of patient care. With our Curriculum for the 21st Century, C21, we combine advances in learning strategies, emerging technologies, and informatics solutions to fulfill our trifold mission: to teach, to serve, and to discover.
Every student enrolled in our MD degree program receives a Full-Tuition Scholarship, regardless of merit or financial need, that covers the majority of the cost of attendance. Our Full-Tuition Scholarships make it possible for aspiring physicians to choose a specialty based on their talent and inclinations to better serve the communities who need it most, and to more easily pursue scientific breakthroughs that improve how we care for patients. We aim to turn the best and brightest future physicians into leaders with the potential to transform healthcare.
Our groundbreaking accelerated three-year MD program, launched in 2013, reduces the traditional medical school curriculum by one full year, with the ability to opt in during your first year of medical school. With our four- and five-year pathways to the MD degree, including dual degree programs, we offer unparalleled flexibility to customize your medical training in ways that align with your professional interests.
We’re continuing to reshape medical curriculum to solve today’s biggest challenges in healthcare. Our Institute for Innovations in Medical Education recently launched a “Healthcare by the Numbers” curriculum designed to educate first- and second-year medical students about the many ways in which “big data”—drawing meaningful information from large public data sets—can inform and improve clinical care.
Join us in an educational experience that integrates clinical skills, quality, and evidence-based medicine, and emphasizes the importance of patient-centered care to inform and enhance healthcare in the 21st century.
We have more than 1,300 residents and fellows across 156 different medical residency and fellowship training programs. These graduate medical education programs allow new physicians to specialize in dozens of areas of medicine. All our residents and fellows have access to the range of sites at which we provide care as well as our vast educational technology resources. Our continuing medical education courses advance the careers of practicing physicians, with more than 160 live and regularly scheduled educational offerings serving nearly 60,000 learners last year.
For scientists and physician–scientists, the PhD, MD/PhD, and postdoctoral programs at Vilcek Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences provide the opportunity to pursue the highest caliber of scientific research. Our more than 300 graduate students and more than 400 postdoctoral fellows are closely mentored by members of our faculty, and receive guidance in personalized career paths that span science, medicine, and industry.
